Holiday Celebrations

Discovery Place Kids Rockingham

Christmas

We’re full of holiday cheer this month! Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s Eve make December a month to celebrate.

If you're looking for festive activities for kids, stop by Discovery Place Kids throughout December as we learn how different cultures celebrate the season and make fun holiday crafts, including decorations and fake snow.

Ever wonder what animals do in winter? Find out during our daily Puppet Show, Sammy Squirrel's Holiday Party.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, write your letter to Santa, drop it in our mailbox and we’ll be sure to deliver it to the North Pole. On Wednesdays and Fridays, discover how Christmas trees came about, find out how they've changed in the past 500 years and help us build one using some unique construction materials.

Additional activities this month include:

December 9 & 10 - Hanukkah: Learn about the traditions of the Festival of Lights.

December 16 & 17 - Let it Snow: No snow in sight? Don’t worry, all we need is a chemical reaction! We'll read a special story and use science to concoct our very own snow.

December 23 - Merry Christmas: It’s a wonderful time to share with family and friends! Your Discovery Place Kids family would like to celebrate the joy of the season with an ornament erupting good time!

December 26 - Kwanzaa: Celebrate the first day of Kwanzaa by joining us for a special story time.

December 27 & 29 - New Year’s Resolutions: A resolution is a promise that you make to better yourself or the world around, such as opening doors for people or doing 10 jumping jacks a day. Make your New Year’s Resolution with us before the new year starts.

December 30 - The Countdown Is On: 2018 is almost here. Get ready for to ring in the new year by decorating crowns and masks.

December 31 - New Year’s at Noon: Three, two, one … Happy New Year! Say good-bye to 2017 and blast off into 2018 with our annual Discovery Place Kids celebration. The Museum will open at 10:00 a.m. to help our staff prepare for this special event.

The Museum will be closed December 24 - 25 for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
