FAQs

  • Registration Process

    • Online Registration: Please register online for the fastest processing. Click here for a detailed list of registration information.
    • Phone Registration: You can also register by calling 704.981.9485. Be aware that long wait times and delays in responding to messages may occur.
    • Member Discounts: Members must log in to their account and add camps to their "cart" to view the discounted Member price. This discount is valid only for camps at museum locations covered by your membership. For membership queries, email: members@discoveryplace.org
    • Payment: Full payment is required at the time of registration.
  • Drop-Off Information

    Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville is at 105 Gilead Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.

    Park in the Huntersville Town Center Parking Deck — it’s free! — located directly behind the Museum. The Parking Deck is accessible from both Old Statesville and Gilead roads. Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before the start of the camp. Signage and staff will help you identify the drop-off location. An adult must participate in the camp if your camper is two or under.

    The pick-up and drop-off locations are the same. All adults must present a photo ID when collecting campers, but only adults listed as authorized pick-up people can pick up a camper.

    • Morning drop-off time is 8:45 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
    • Afternoon half-day drop-off time is 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • Pick-Up Information

    The pick-up and drop-off locations are the same. All adults must present a photo ID when collecting campers, but only adults listed as authorized pick-up people. Late pick-ups (any time after the designated time slot) are subject to a $50 late fee. Consistent late pick-ups are grounds for dismissal from the program.

    If you have registered for an AM and PM Half-Day Camp, Discovery Place will not provide lunchtime supervision for this grade level. Those campers must be picked up by noon and returned for the afternoon session.

    Pick-up times are:

    • Half-Day AM: 11:45 a.m. – Noon (Extended Care is not available)
    • Half-Day PM: 3:45 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
    • Full-Day: 3:45 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. | Extended Care: 8:00 a.m.– 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.

    Campers can be picked up 15 minutes before the scheduled end of camp at the exact location as drop-off.

  • Lunch and Snacks

    • Full Day Campers should bring two snacks and a lunch.
    • If your camp is at Discovery Place Science, you can also order a healthy and delicious lunch from Bean Sprouts Cafe´. Snacks are not provided and will need to be sent separately.
    • Half-day campers should bring one snack. Please note that if you have registered for both an AM and PM Half-Day Camp, Discovery Place will not provide lunchtime supervision for this grade level. Those campers must be picked up by noon and brought back for the afternoon session.
    • All snacks and lunches must be nut-free for the safety of all campers.
    • All Campers should bring an easy-to-open-and-close refillable water bottle.
  • Sample Daily Schedule

    This Schedule is subject to change based on the camp's needs, and the order of activities may fluctuate from camp to camp.

    • 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. Morning Activities
    • 10:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m. Snack and Bathroom Break
    • 10:30 a.m.–11:45 a.m. Morning Activities
    • 11:50 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Lunch
    • 12:30 p.m.–12:50 p.m. Brain Break Activity
    • 1:00 p.m.–2:30 p.m. Afternoon Activities
    • 2:30 p.m.–3:00 p.m. Snack and Bathroom Break
    • 3:00 p.m.–3:50 p.m. Afternoon Activities
    • 3:50 p.m.–4:00 p.m. Clean-up for departure
  • What to Bring (and NOT to Bring)

    • Campers must bring lunch and snacks for the day, as no food options will be offered on-site. Please ensure all food is nut-free. Please prepare food that doesn't need to be reheated. If necessary, add an ice pack to the lunch bags to keep food cold!
    • Campers should bring a refillable water bottle. They will have access to water-bottle filling stations.
    • Campers should wear comfy clothes that say, "I'm ready to dance, create, learn and play!" and the provided Discovery Place Camp T-shirt. Optional: Full-day campers should also bring a change of clothes as they may get messy.
    • NO TOYS/ELECTRONICS FROM HOME. We are not responsible for lost/stolen items.
  • Extended Care Options

    • Availability: Extended Care is available for Full-Day Camps only from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. This option is subject to limited availability and requires a minimum number of enrollments.
    • Cost: The fee for Extended Care is $75 per week.
    • Registration and Notification: You can register for Extended Care now. We will inform you in May 2024 if Extended Care is unavailable during your camp week.
    • Activities: During Extended Care, children will engage in various games and activities organized by the Extended Care Team.
    • Not Available for Half-Day Camps: Extended Care is not offered for Half Day Camps.
  • Wait List Procedure

    • Joining the Wait List: If a camp session is full, you can join a Wait List.
    • Notification: Waitlist members will be notified when a spot becomes available. However, being on the waitlist does not guarantee a space or provide priority booking.
    • How to Join: To be added to a Wait List, attempt to register for a camp marked as 'sold out.' You will see an option to 'join the waitlist.' Click this and fill out the form with your contact details.
  • Reschedule Requests

    1. Availability Assessment: Requests to change your camp registration to a different week are subject to availability.
    2. Reschedule Request Timeline: You must request to reschedule at least three full weeks before the start date of your original camp week and at least two weeks before the start date of the new camp week you wish to attend. Click here for detailed lists of the process for rescheduling.
    3. Cancellation Policy: If rescheduling is impossible and you cannot attend your initially registered camp week, the standard cancellation policy will apply.
  • Refunds and Cancellations

    Cancellation Due to Low Enrollment: Camps may be canceled with low enrollment. We will decide this three weeks before the session starts. If your camp is canceled, you'll be notified and given a choice to select another camp (subject to availability) or receive a full refund.

    Cancellation by Participants: To cancel a camp enrollment and receive a refund (minus cancellation fees), you must notify us in writing by 5:00 p.m. on May 1st, 2024. Click here for a detailed list of the cancellation process.

    Cancellation Fees: The fee is $80 for a full-day camp and $40 for a half-day camp per session per child.

    No Refunds After Deadline: No refunds for cancellations made after 5:00 p.m. on May 1st will be issued.

    Missed Days: Missed camp days are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to other sessions.

  • Who can participate in Summer Camps at Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville?

    A child must have the following capabilities to participate in Summer Camp at Discovery Place:

    • Be able to move independently from one location to another.
    • Take care of their personal needs.
    • Be potty trained and able to use the restroom unassisted.
    • Have effective interactions in a group-based environment (including pair work, group projects, etc.)
    • Abide by the code of conduct and behavior guidelines.
