What's the Matter?

Discovery Place Kids Huntersville

Ice Cream

Can states of matter change from one to another?

Come in throughout November to explore the interaction of molecules in everyday items. We’ll be playing with science in exciting ways all month long!

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, explore the Properties of Matter and see if we can get solids, liquids and gasses to change from one state to another. On Wednesdays and Fridays, explore different states of matter and learn ways to describe them during The Shape of It All.

Additional activities this month include:

November 5 & 6: Ice Cream - We’re making ice cream in a scientific way as we examine solids, liquids and gasses

November 8: Election Day - It’s time to cast your vote! Choose your favorite design for decorating the I CAN Create sign and place your ballet in the box. We’ll tally the votes and announce the winner.

November 11: Veterans Day - The Town of Huntersville is holding its first annual Veterans Day Parade at 9:45 a.m. Enjoy the celebration in front of the Museum and come inside for special stories and patriotic crafts throughout the day. As a special thank you this Veterans Day, Discovery Place Kids is offering FREE Museum admission to all members of the military and veterans with a valid ID. Tickets for family of military personnel are available at a discounted rate of $2 off admission.

November 12 & 13: The Science of Bubbles - Bubbles start out as a liquid, but did you know they are full of gas? Learn scientific terms while playing with bubbles.

November 19 & 20: What Is Oobleck? - Oobleck doesn’t act like a liquid or a solid. It’s certainly not a gas. Examine this crazy non-Newtonian fluid.

November 23: Thanksgiving - At Discovery Place Kids, we are very thankful for all our guests! Joinus for a special story with fun, festive activities to follow.

November 26 & 27: Pancake Physics - What starts as a liquid, turns into a solid and you can see gas while you cook it? Pancakes, of course! Join us for yummy lessons about cooking with science.

Please note: The Museum will be closed Thursday, November 24, for Thanksgiving.
