Explore fun winter science throughout January
Discovery Place Kids Huntersville
Why winter is so cold and icy? How do animals keep warm without jackets and mittens?
From winter animals to winter weather, we're exploring all the season has to offer, with hands-on Winter Wonderland activities throughout January.
The Museum will be open on one special Monday, January 18, with special activities to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Bundle up for chilly Story Time tales, including Hibernation Station by Michelle Meadows, All You Need for a Snowman by Alice Schertle and Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester.
Little learners can learn about hibernation or panning for gold with two new daily programs. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, find out how to identify real gold, which was first discovered California in January 1848. On Wednesdays and Fridays, examine animal furs and discover how many creatures survive the cold.
Additional activities this month include:
- January 17: Winter Science Lab - Experiment with snow, ice and states of matter.
- January 23: The Three Little Kittens - Those silly kittens can’t seem to keep track of their mittens. Join us for a special story and we’ll search high and low to help them find their mittens.
- January 30: Snowflake Symmetry - Did you know that no two snowflakes are alike? Learn about symmetry by making your own special snowflake to take home.
