Feel and see the forces around us. Experiment with Newton’s Laws of Motion through a variety of hands-on activities.

Essential Standards:

  • 5.P.1.1: Explain how factors such as gravity, friction, and change in mass affect the motion of objects.
  • 5.P.1.3: Illustrate the motion of an object using a graph to show a change in position over a period of time.


  • Students will learn the mathematical equation for “work”.
  • Students will learn about simple machines, such as: wheel and axle, pulley, lever, screw, wedge, and inclined plane.
  • Students will have to construct their own simple machine.
  • Students will have to work together as a team.
  • Students will build a structure (with limited resources) that will resist the force of a speeding car.
