Winter Wilderness

Baby, it's cold outside!

From winter animals to cold chemistry, we’re exploring all the season has to offer. Explore the polar regions, learn how animals protect themselves from the ice and cold and much more throughout the month of January.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, learn about hibernation and examine various animal furs as we read one of our winter favorites, The Mitten by Jan Brett. On Wednesdays and Fridays, find out how many animals have evolved to survive life in the deep cold as we investigate some of our favorite polar animals from the Winter Wilderness.

Additional activities this month include:

January 7 & 8: Winter Science Lab - Experiment with snow, ice and states of matter. No need to bundle up to experience this cold winter fun!

January 14 & 15: Can You Find the Gold? - Pan for “gold” as we learn about color and luster of different rocks and minerals.

January 16: Martin Luther King Jr. - Yes, the Museum will be open as we celebrate the important work of Dr. King with a special story time.

January 21 & 22: Liquid Nitrogen - Did you know that liquid nitrogen can reach temperatures as low as -320 degrees Fahrenheit? Join us as we experiment with different objects and this freezing liquid.

January 28 & 29: Chinese New Year - Create paper lanterns and celebrate the Year of the Rooster with a special dance.
