Make it a December to Remember at Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham

Discovery Place Kids Rockingham

Throughout December, we’ll be mixing up the spirit of the holiday season and spreading plenty of cheer courtesy of one of our favorite kinds of science – chemistry. All month long, we’ll have you singing, “Oh Chemistry, Oh Chemistry, how we love to learn with thee!”

Our once Spooky Science Lab has been transformed into a Winter Wonderlab that promises daily doses of cool chemistry fun. Inside the lab, expect a variety of chilling experiments and activities including everything from reindeer toothpaste, bouncing snowballs and peppermint oobleck to marbled holiday cards, gingerbread ornaments and silvering holiday décor.

Mark your calendars and, on December 7, run, run as fast as you can to get to the Museum to take part in our Gingerbread Showcase! At the annual gingerbread workshop, we’ll be using basic kitchen chemistry to whip up gingerbread ornaments to take home. Plus, in the Museum lobby, we will feature gingerbread houses made by members of our community. Be sure to cast a vote for your favorite display and follow along on social media to see who takes the top spot.

After warming up with all that gingerbread fun, be sure to return to the Museum on December 27 for our very own Snow Day. Discover the science of snow in our winter break celebration and make some snow of your own!

Then, finish out the year with us by taking part in our New Year’s at Noon festivities. Our annual Discovery Place Kids countdown to the “noon year” will begin at 11:45 a.m. Get ready to blast off into 2020 with us because you don’t want to miss this fun celebration!
