Do runners (and walkers) of Richmond County have any love for Love Lane?

The quaint street of Love Lane is arguably the hardest part of the upcoming Run for the Ribbons 5K course route. The race, taking place on April 16, 2016, winds through downtown Rockingham where it begins and ends on E. Washington Street in front of Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham.

So what’s Love (Lane) got to do with it?

Just after the 1-mile mark, participants will have to run at an incline for about 1/3 of a mile up Love Lane, lifting them higher … and higher … and higher up the hill, until they finally level out at Hawthorne Avenue.

Don’t let that deter you! The team at Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham has prepared a playlist that is sure to sweep you off your feet and help you get up Love Lane without heartbreak.

So start practicing those victory dances for when you reach the top:

  • You Give Love A Bad Name – Bon Jovi
  • What’s Love Got To Do With It – Tina Turner
  • Love Hurts – Nazareth
  • Love Machine – The Miracles
  • You Can’t Hurry Love – Phil Collins
  • Love is a Battlefield – Pat Benatar
  • Hurts So Good – John Mellencamp
  • Somebody To Love – Queen
  • Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher – Jackie Wilson
  • Love Song – Tesla
  • I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) – Meat Loaf

Run for the Ribbons is an annual 5K and family fun 1K that raises cancer awareness and promotes healthy lifestyle choices including fitness, healthy eating and education on cancer prevention.

Proceeds from the race will equally support Discovery Place KIDS and the FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital CARE Fund to support the health needs in the community including assistance with patient transportation, medical equipment and supplies, inspiring exercise and healthy nutrition to decrease childhood obesity rates in Richmond County and providing education and screening to help reduce the morbidity rates in Richmond County from heart disease and lung cancer.
