I CAN Be Healthy Month

Discovery Place Kids Rockingham

Pump It Up

This month, we are taking care of our bodies and learning how to stay healthy.

Little guests will learn about different types of foods and exercise, and discover some of the body’s most important organs through stories, games and fun activities throughout April.

The heart is one of the most important organs in our body, and it’s our job to make sure they beat healthy and strong. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, discover the role the heart plays in our bodies and what makes them tick.

On Wednesdays and Fridays, get your hearts pumping and bodies moving with some fun exercises for kids.

Additional activities this month include:

April 7 & 8 - Germology: Discover how germs make us sick and what it takes to keep them away. Little guests will learn proper hand-washing techniques and other healthy habits.

April 7 - My Healthy Heart Dissection: Discover the role the heart plays in our bodies and what makes this vital organ tick through a special dissection.

April 14 - Run for the Ribbons: Run for the Ribbons is a family celebration that raises awareness and promotes healthy lifestyle choices including fitness, healthy eating and education. Join us for our 5K and 1 Mile Family Fun Run to be active together. All proceeds benefit the FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital Foundation and Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham.

April 15 - Let’s Get Physical: When you exercise, you’re helping build strong muscles and bones in your body. Get your hearts pumping and bodies moving with us today.

April 21 & 22 - Nuts About Nutrition: Food is our body’s source of energy, and we want to fuel it the best way we can. Learn about healthy eating habits and what too much sugar can do to our bodies.

April 22 - Earth Day: We’re having an Earth Day celebration as we give thanks to our Mother Earth! Little guests will learn about the importance of taking care of our environment and celebrate this special day by planting seeds to take home.

April 28 & 29 - Just Breathe: What’s something we do all day, no matter where we are or who we’re with? Breathe! Little pulmonologists will investigate the importance of keeping your lungs healthy with a hands-on demonstration.

April 29 - Arbor Day: Celebrate trees and all they bring us in honor of Arbor Day.

The Museum will be closed Sunday, April 1.
