Celebrate a new year, new you at Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham

Discovery Place Kids Rockingham

It is officially 2020, and what better way to celebrate a new year than to celebrate ourselves! This month at Discovery Place Kids, we are focusing on healthy habits and ways to nourish our minds, bodies and emotions.

Get moving every day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. as the Museum hosts special New Year, New You shows and activities focused on taking care of yourself all year long. On any given day, you may find yourself participating in yoga in our special yoga lab, learning the ABCs of being mindful, eating the rainbow, breaking a sweat with physical activity and more.

On the morning of Saturday, January 11, Get it Moving with us as we invite our friends from Dance Sensations to the Museum for 30-minute dance class sessions. Adults and kids alike should dust off those dancing shoes because these sessions promise to be fun for the whole family!

Keep it a family affair by visiting us for Fit Families on Friday, January 17, at 10 a.m. FirstHealth Fitness-Rockingham is coming to provide valuable tips about healthy bodies and making fitness fun for everyone.

And, of course, you can burn some extra calories every day at the Sandhills Stage as we celebrate with Big Fun. Museum guests are invited to boogie and shake with us as we dance and sing songs ranging from the “Chicken Dance” (you know you secretly love acting like a chicken!) to “Shake it all About.”

Plus, teach the little ones that it isn’t always about being the fastest. Our latest Puppet Show, Tortoise & The Hare aims to answer the question of whether slow and steady really does win the race. Little Red Riding Hood, the North Wind, The Sun and the Gingerbread Man all want to know. Don’t miss out on this whirlwind of characters as the Hare and the Tortoise race to the finish line.

Looking for more to do this month? Be sure to check out our daily schedule for the most up-to-date listing of activities, shows and more taking place all month long at Discovery Place Kids.
