Grab your hardhat, gloves and safety goggles and join our construction crew. Discover the purpose of real tools and use them in a safe environment, trace actual Discovery Place KIDS blueprints and learn important math skills through measurement.

Major Concepts to Be Explored:

Students will create their own building plans and understand their usage and understand what screws, screwdrivers, hammers, nails, and levels are used for in construction. They will also understand safety precautions that are important when using tools.

Essential Standards:

  • K.P.1.1: Compare the relative position of various objects observed in the classroom and outside using position words such as in front of, behind, between, on top of, under, above, below, beside.
  • K.P.2.2: Compare the observable physical properties of different kinds of material (clay, wood, cloth, paper, etc.) from which objects are made and how they are used.
  • K.G.1: Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes and describe the relative position of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.
