Top Things to Do at Discovery Place Kids in May
Discovery Place Kids Huntersville
What does it take to travel into space? This month, Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville will lead kids on an exploration of our solar system as we learn about how astronauts get ready for their journey. Our theme for May is I CAN Be an Astronaut, and our top things to do this month will take you out of this world.
On Tuesdays & Thursdays, we’ll use Planets by Ellen Hasbrouck as our guide to all eight planets in our solar system. Then we’ll continue exploring with “otherworldly” crafts and activities in I CAN Create. On Wednesdays & Fridays, join us as we look at Richard Harris’ The Sun and Other Stars to answer questions like “How hot is the sun?” and “Where do stars go during the day?” With hands-on activities and experiments, these weekdays will be a fun-filled space spectacular.
What’s Happening on the Weekends?
Join us at the Town Center for the best weekend kids activities. Each activity starts with a special story at 11:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. on Saturdays and at 1:45 p.m. on Sundays.
- May 5 & 6- Cinco de Mayo: Come along as we explore Mexico through the book Off We Go to Mexico by Laurie Krebs at the Town Center. Then, dip into some guacamole at I CAN Be Healthy as we learn about Mexican traditions.
- May 12 & 13- Mother’s Day: Mama Loves by Rebecca Kai Dotlich will be our story at the Town Center on this special holiday. Then we’ll celebrate moms everywhere with cards and crafts in I CAN Create that “Mama” really will love!
- May 19 & 20- Astronaut Training: Put on your space suit and report to the Town Center for training. We will go through the Astronaut Handbook by Meghan McCarthy as we prepare for our launch into space.
- May 26 & 27- Blast off to the Moon: 3….2…1…BLAST OFF! Join us at the Town Center to take a trip to the moon with the story Roaring Rockets by Tony Mitton, and be sure to stick around after as we launch our very own balloon rocket race in the middle of the Museum! “Stellar” crafts will follow in I CAN Create.
What Can We Do on Memorial Day?
Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville will be open on this special Monday to help remember all those who worked to make the United States of America the home we love. Join us at the Town Center at 11:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. for some patriotic fun!
