The STEAM journey continues at Discovery Place Kids

Discovery Place Kids Huntersville

Discovery Place Kids is continuing its three-month journey into the amazing world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). Last month, we focused on science and technology and in November, we’re moving on to engineering and art as we use critical thinking and creativity to solve problems while creating something magical.

Daily Fun

From November 1-15, join us daily for an Engineering Surprise that has us engaging with different types of engineering to better understand the world around us. Engineers know how and why things work the way they do and through these daily activities, we’re channeling the inner engineer in all of us. Experiments and activities taking place throughout these two weeks include everything from a mystery bag challenge and building with packing peanuts to constructing simple machines and blueprint stamping.

Then, from November 16-30, we’ll focus on a new and exciting Art Surprise each day as we let our inner artists shine through. Whether you like to draw, dance, sing or act, if you put your mind to it you can create something beautiful. Each day, we will explore different mediums as we learn more about art. We’ll explore everything from pointillism and painting to sock puppets and acting.

Special Events

On November 2, plan to visit the Museum between 10 a.m. and noon to take part in our I CAN Be Anything Fair where kids can interact with real, live community helpers and talk to them about their careers.

On November 16 and November 19, Discovery Place Kids is hosting the music school Bach to Rock, or B2R, for a special ROCK CITY class full of dynamic musical and movement-based activities. Little ones are sure to enjoy dancing along to the music!

Plus, we’re hosting Thanksgiving a day early at the Museum, on November 27! Join us for a special Thanksgiving story followed by lots of turkey craft fun as we discuss all the things for which we are grateful, including our amazing guests!

Psst: If you’re feeling festive, be sure to check out our special puppet show, Sammy Squirrel’s Holiday Party. It’s a staff favorite!
