Ten, nine, eight, seven... blast off into space at Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville

Discovery Place Kids Huntersville

Children and families coming to Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville in July are invited to shoot for the moon and land among the stars as we blast off into a fun-filled month of space activities. We’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing by offering an in-depth exploration of our solar system as well as some very important astronaut training.

From July 1-13, we’ll study the planets that make up Our Solar System while also learning just how hot the sun can get and whether the moon is really made of cheese.

During the second half of the month, from July 14-26, we’ll suit up and get ready to travel to the moon. Join us in our Astronaut Training where we will use fine and gross motor skills to defy gravity.

Once we are trained to get to space, it will be time to learn about Surviving in Space. From July 27-31, we’ll learn how to live in space by taking a look at some Earthly examples of survival in extreme conditions.

Special space days

Officially Blast Off into space with us at 11 a.m. on July 16, the anniversary of Apollo 11’s rocket launch as it began the long journey to the moon. We’ll learn about the astronauts who were on board that famous mission as well as about the rockets that took them to another world.

On July 20, celebrate the anniversary of the Moon Landing with a special egg-drop activity at 11 a.m. Plus, see how the astronauts were able to safely return to Earth after walking on the moon.

Back to Earth

We’ll keep our feet planted firmly on the ground as we celebrate the Fourth of July with a special Amazing America program that recognizes some of the amazing things Americans have done throughout history, including those famous astronauts who took “one giant leap for mankind” that fateful day 50 years ago.

Across the (Discovery Place) universe

Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville isn’t our only Museum living in outer space this month. Be sure to check out the fun space-related activities taking place at Discovery Place Science, Discovery Place Nature and Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham, too.

Our space invasion will continue through September, with new and exciting intergalactic adventures taking place each month. You’ll be over the moon with all the amazing activities taking place at each location!
