Ready, Set, Learn

Discovery Place Kids | Huntersville

We are getting ready for a new school year at Discovery Place Kids!

Join us throughout August as we learn about different topics to celebrate the last weeks of summer and prepare for a new school year.

Be sure to join us Friday, August 25, for our annual free community-wide event, Countdown to Kindergarten. Young learners can get ready for the first big day of school with FREE Museum admission, skill-building activities and key information that children and parents will need in preparation for their first day of school.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, have Fun with Glue as we read a story and create a colorful collage. On Wednesdays and Fridays, get Smart with Art as we engage our senses, create silly art and develop expression skills.

Additional activities this month include:

August 5 & 6: My Name - Can you tell me your first and last name? Do you know all the letters in your first name? Hear the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr.  and practice writing the letters in your name in fun ways.

August 12 & 13: Rhymes - Join us for fun times as we play with some nursery rhymes! Rhymes help us learn how our language works, experiment with expression and make predictions.

August 19 & 20: Eclipse - Something exciting is happening soon -- the solar eclipse! Hear the story The Big Eclipse by Nancy Coffelt and participate in activities to learn why the sky will go dark on August 21.

August 26 & 27: Color Mixing - Learn about primary colors and how to create secondary colors by mixing and mashing.
