Discovery Place Kids embarks on STEAM journey starting with Science, Technology in October

Discovery Place Kids Huntersville

Everyone is invited to join us on a three-month journey as we investigate the wonderful world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). This month, we will kick things off by focusing on Science and Technology to discover more about how we use them every day, sometimes without even realizing it.

From October 1-15, we’ll be hosting a Science Surprise each day that invites our guests to don their goggles and lab coats as we set out to answer some questions we develop together. We’ll be encouraging children to think like scientists – studying the world around them by asking questions, conducting experiments and discovering answers.

Science Surprise topics will range from weather and forces in motion to chemical reactions and chromatography. You never know what you’ll find happening at the Museum, but it’s guaranteed to be science focused. One day we might be looking at animal scat (yep, poop!) and tracks to try to match them and the next day we could be conducting experiments that show us the difference between acids and bases.

From October 16-30, we will host a daily Technology Surprise as we examine and discover different types of technology while imagining what we might one day invent on our own. We’ll show children how technology is helping us to solve problems in easier, more efficient ways.

Technology Surprise experiments might include anything from sequencing and coding to ozobots and algorithms. Just like our science focus, the technology-driven weeks will see us doing a wide range of activities.

Then, on Halloween, be sure to check out our Spooky Science from 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. On this very boo-tiful day, we will open our Secret Lab to bring out our spookiest experiments. Dance the Monster Mash with us as we take part in activities and hand out goodies. Costumes are welcome!
