Ants

Crawl, fly or hop on over to Discovery Place Kids this month to learn all about bugs!

From insects to arachnids, we are learning why these creatures are so important. Join us for our favorite bug-related stories, songs, art and activities.

Did you know that bees are the only insects that make food humans eat? On Tuesdays and Thursdays, get to know these Busy Bees through story time and a fun craft. On Wednesdays and Fridays, we'll start with The Very Hungry Caterpillar to explore the life cycle of the butterfly.

Additional activities this month include:

June 10 & 11 - Amazing Arachnids: Learn about what makes our spider friends so special as we read The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle and enjoy a special appearance from our very own tarantula, Scarlet O’Hairy.

June 14 - Flag Day: Celebrate this patriotic holiday as we read I Pledge Allegiance by Pat Mora & Libby Martinez and make our own flags.

June 17 - Teddy Bear Clinic: Bring your favorite plush animal for a “check-up” with our friends from Novant Health and participate in a variety of activities that will make going to the doctor a little less scary.

June 17 & 18 - Father’s Day: Let us help you celebrate your dad or someone who is like a dad to you this weekend. Our Creative Play Professionals will be on hand to help children make some special gifts.

June 21 - The Summer Solstice: Play outside in our Learning Garden as we create art with some special materials that need the sun's rays.

June 24 & 25 - Mighty Ants: Learn how ants hear, taste, touch, and smell.
