All About Matter

Discovery Place Kids Huntersville

Dpkh Story

Can states of matter change from one to another? Stop by Discovery Place Kids throughout November to explore the interaction of molecules in everyday items. We’ll play with science in exciting ways!

What is oobleck? Find out on Tuesdays and Thursdays when we examine this non-Newtonian fluid. On Wednesdays and Fridays, explore the Science of Bubbles with a special story time and bubble fun outdoors in the Learning Garden.

Additional activities this month include:

November 4 - I CAN BE Anything Fair: What do you want to be when you grow up? Get to know some real community helpers at our annual kid-sized career fair.

November 4 & 5 - Pancakes Physics: What starts as a solid, turns into a liquid and you can see gas while you cook it? Pancakes, of course! Enjoy story time and a tasty lesson about cooking with science.

November 11 & 12 - Thank You, Veterans: Take time to celebrate our amazing veterans with patriotic crafts and the story, F is for Flag by Wendy Cheyette Lewison.

November 18 & 19 - Properties of Matter: Explore the three most common states of matter, solids, liquids and gasses. Help us conduct some exciting experiments to see if we can get matter to change from one state to another.

November 22 - Thanksgiving: At Discovery Place Kids, we are very thankful for all our guests! We’ll be reading Thanksgiving for Emily Ann by Teresa Johnston and getting creative in I CAN Create.

November 25 & 26 - Ice Cream: Examine solids, liquids, and gasses in a yummy way as we use science to make ice cream.
